The smelting process of ferroalloy is a high temperature physical and chemical process. The structure of the ferroalloy furnace body must fully meet the needs of special conditions, especially the more important part of the electric furnace lining. In the smelting process, not only have to bear strong high temperature (1400~1800℃), but also bear the physical and chemical erosion and mechanical friction erosion of charge, high temperature furnace gas, molten iron and high temperature slag, so it is easy to be melted, softened, melted and even cracked , the furnace lining will also be damaged.
 
In order to ensure that ferroalloy smelting can be carried out effectively at high temperature, special materials must be used to build the electric furnace lining. Therefore, it is required: ① high fire resistance and high temperature resistance; ② sufficient high temperature and low temperature strength; (3) can withstand temperature changes without damage, that is, have high cold resistance and heat resistance; ④ sufficient chemical corrosion resistance ; ⑤ Large heat capacity and small thermal conductivity, that is, good thermal insulation; ⑥ Small volume expansion; ⑦ Has certain electrical conductivity or insulation.
 
Because zirconium nitride has the characteristics of high melting point, good chemical stability, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and good wear resistance. Also, it is in powder form and mixes well with metallurgical magnesia and graphite powders. As a lining and ramming material, it can play a very good role in knotting furnace bottom materials, repairing furnace walls, blocking holes or making knotted ingot mold materials. , and can improve the strength, corrosion resistance and wear resistance of the furnace lining. The slurry made of zirconium nitride powder mixed with colloidal solution diluted with anhydrous ethanol is painted on the surface of the furnace lining, which has the functions of high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, friction resistance, oxidation resistance and water vapor contact resistance, so as to prolong the service life of the electric furnace 3 times higher. If it can be fused with the lining material, the effect will be better. However, since zirconium nitride is a new product and new material, everyone is not familiar with it, and it is necessary to increase publicity. It has been used abroad for a period of time and has achieved very good results. It has been blocked as a secret technology abroad, so it is rarely disclosed in reports and literature.
